Many people get discouraged when hearing about how violin virtuosos tell their stories: how they started as early as five years old child prodigies, how they were supported and even forced by their parents into playing, and even how they were disciplined and treated into strict training by their teachers. But, as intimidating as most violinists experiences may sound, no hard stories can really stop one from achieving a life-long dream of learning the violin or from heeding to music s call especially when this call come late in life. Adult late.

Here are some points that an adult beginner might have to consider when planning to take violin lessons:

1. Violin teacher
 Legalities of Online Music
...to be bright with newer ideas. But the contentious issue of online music sharing is refusing to die down. Music download sites are making there presence felt all over the web as more and more people are downloading music illegally. ...
Knowing your own learning style, choose a violin teacher whom you think you can openly learn violin with. As an adult beginner, it is crucial to your learning process to have a violin teacher who is more concerned with opening up the world of violin to you, rather than displaying and exhibiting his or her ability as a violinist. When looking for a violin teacher, ask questions, interview students and ask lightly how this teacher teaches on a student s worst-violin-tone day.

2. The violin Getting your own violin is important. You need not buy, but you can rent or borrow a violin that you can practice on a daily basis.

3. Time and dedication
 Hitchhiker's Guide to Online Music
...they may charge per music download. Another type may charge a one-time (or lifetime) membership fee and give you unlimited access to iPod tunes to download. The third type may give you free music downloads and earn their money from ...
If you are considering about taking violin music seriously, goals and objectives have to be established early on.

How do you begin a piece of music? That’s a question I’m often asked. The answer I usually give is that you begin as soon as you start playing - that is, if you’re trying to “compose” something, the piece begins the moment it has energy and is something you want to capture. If it’s an improvisation, the piece begins the moment you set your fingers on the keys and hit the first note. It’s like free flow writing and writing a chapter to a novel.

The writer can both improvise and enjoy the process or can structure the ideas more - or, as I like to do, combine both procedures into one. I start out by improvising - always. Then,
Alex Bugnon "Free" Smooth Jazz Music CD Review
...the nicer things about a CD like this is with this level of talent even if Smooth Jazz isn t your favorite style you still can t help but appreciate the greatness of the artist.Listen to this CD and I ...
if I want to memorialize a musical idea, I write down the first two bars of melody along with the chord(s) I’m playing. I throw this on a chart and voila - the idea remains fresh until I want to either expand on it, or ignore it completely.

If the idea is a rhythm pattern I write down (Left hand = whatever the pattern is) so I can remember it later. I never stop improvising though because that would stop the flow and who knows what could come out of it. Don’t forget that an improvisation is a piece of music in and of itself. There is really no need to impose structure on something as beautiful and organic as spontaneous
Things To Consider When Planning To Learn The Violin As An Adult
...discouraged when hearing about how violin virtuosos tell their stories: how they started as early as five years old child prodigies, how they were supported and even forced by their parents into playing, and even how they were disciplined and ...
expression. In fact, these spur of the moment fantasies are often more inspiring than any contrived composition. There is something more alive to them because there IS more life to them.

Endings pose another problem, namely the problem of when to stop playing. For improvisation, the answer is when energy (inspiration) starts to wane down. That’s a good time to bring your music to an end. You’ll know when this is happening when you become bored. That’s the sign it’s time to stop.

Composition is a different story. The form of the piece already dictates when you should stop. For example, an ABA form tells you to play the A section once or twice, go to B, back to A then bring
 Legalities of Online Music
...segment has now almost taken shape of a regularised industry. Although the demon of music piracy is still looms large but the future seems to be bright with newer ideas. But the contentious issue of online music sharing is refusing ...
the piece to an end. Of course the amount of repetition and contrast is a personal decision but the form establishes both beginning and ending. It’s a nice safe way to say that yes, I have a piece of music here. Now, improvisations can have form as well. The big difference is that you don’t consciously think about putting the music into a predefined shape.

But for some unknown reason, most improvisations do have symmetry - that is they take on a form of their own. I don’t know if this is because of human beings innate rhythm (heartbeat) or what.

Even Zen flute music, which may be the most freely inspired improvisation style around has some structure. You can hear
 Hitchhiker's Guide to Online Music
...new and exciting online music sites offering iPod downloads with a variety of music from Country/Western music to Christian and Gospel music to Classical tunes.

If you’re a classically trained pianist, you probably can read music extremely well. But you probably can’t just go to the piano, sit down, and play what you feel!

It’s a sad but true fact. For most classically trained students, improvisation and just “being” at the piano is not an option. This isn’t to say that they don’t want to improvise and create their own music. They just don’t know how to do it!

Listen.. It’s not their fault at all! You see, their training consists of spending years upon years learning how to play the music of dead composers. And while the music of “the masters” is great and worthy of hearing, it isn’t something coming from you.

Writers don’t have this
Piano Music - How to Begin and End a Piece
...piece of music? That's a question I'm often asked. The answer I usually give is that you begin as soon as you start playing - that is, if you're trying to "compose" something, the piece begins the moment it has ...
problem. If someone interested in learning the art of short-story writing was told that they would have to spend 4 years copying another novelists work, they would go insane.

Painters also don’t have this problem. A watercolorist would laugh in your face if you told him that you learned how to paint by assiduously copying another painters work. In fact, music may be the only art where students are actually taught NOT to be creative! Think about it.

Reading music is just one aspect of the process. It’s like reading the words in a good book. We all can do it but most of us wouldn’t be able to actually create what was on the written page. Now all of this begs
Alex Bugnon "Free" Smooth Jazz Music CD Review
...to from beginning to end. There is usually a song or two that I just can t force myself to get through. Not at all the case with Free. Every track is enjoyable and was pretty easy for me to ...
the question of why so many people devote so much of their time to note-reading. I think the answer is simple - it’s what’s always been done and it’s something that piano teachers (usually on a pedestal) push their students into learning.

Listen carefully… You don’t need to read music in order to play piano! As a matter of fact, learning how to note read before learning how to improvise and use chords at the piano can be a major deterrent to creative piano playing.

Listen.. It’s not their fault at all! You see, their training consists of spending years upon years learning how to play the music of dead composers. And while the music of “the masters” is great and worthy of hearing, it isn’t something coming from you.

Writers don’t have this
Piano Music - How to Begin and End a Piece
...writing a chapter to a novel. The writer can both improvise and enjoy the process or can structure the ideas more - or, as I like to do, combine both procedures into one. I start out by improvising - always. Then, ...

The first thing most students think they have to learn when playing keyboards is note reading. But not only is note reading unnecessary…it’s a hindrance when you really want to play piano like a pro. Why? Because pros use chords. And chords are much, much easier to learn than reading sheet music.

While chords will help you play like a pro fast, it all depends on the kind of chords you play. For example, most fledgling piano students think they will begin by playing triads. And for most piano teachers, this is the chord structure taught at the beginning. While there is nothing at all wrong with triads (all western music is built on this) it just won’t give
Why Learning How to Read Music Can Actually Hinder Your Progress at the Piano
...to say that they don't want to improvise and create their own music.
A chord structure I have my beginning students learn first, the open position piano chord, uses both hands right away to create a modern sound!

The benefit of using both hands right away is that you can vary the tones between hands to create a rich, beautiful sound that can NEVER be accomplished with the simple triad. Why piano teachers have their students learn triads first, I’ll never know. But when you learn this chord position first, it allows you to create a open vented sound that is perfect for today’s contemporary styles. Jazz, New Age, etc.. These styles can be created easily using the open position piano chord.

The way to play these chords is relatively easy. The left hand gets the root note, the fifth, and the seventh. The right hand gets to play the third, seventh, and third again. So, if we were to play a C Major 7 chord, it would be spelled like this: LH - c, g, b RH - e, b, e. This looks a lot more complicated than it actually is and when you see it laid out for you on a keyboard diagram, you’ll immediately see how easy it actually is to play!
